Former Hartford Police Officer Defeats the City's Motion for Summary Judgment in Wrongful Termination case

Former Hartford police officer Alfred Lassen has defeated the City of Hartford's motion for summary judgment in a wrongful termination case. Officer Lassen worked for the City of Hartford as a police officer for many years. Due to a medical condition, he took  a medical leave of absence. The leave of absence was necessary to receive medical treatment. In turn, the medical treatment allowed him to regain his ability to work as a police officer. As he was about to return to work, the City of Hartford terminated his employment. Not only did the City of Hartford terminate Mr. Lassen, the City also refused to rehire him. The City claimed that Officer Lassen could not work as a police officer for the City because Hartford police officers must work rotating shifts. The City's rotating shifts does not add up as the City's own written job description does not identify such a requirement and the collective bargaining agreement does not mandate rotating shifts. The trial court's decision denying summary judgment can be read here. Now that summary judgment has been defeated, Mr. Lassen will have his day in court and a jury will decide his case.  Attorney Sabatini will be trying the case on behalf of Officer Lassen
