Our lawyers recently filed a lawsuit against a Connecticut employer for refusing to allow a pregnant employee to work her job. After receiving notification from the employee that she was pregnant, the employer refused to allow her to continue to work her job. The employer refused to allow her to work even though the employee's doctor wrote a letter stating that the pregnancy was not limiting her ability to perform her job. The employer chose to ignore the medical evidence and instead relied upon speculation and stereotypes in concluding that she could not do the job while pregnant. The employer's decision to deny work because of pregnancy was in violation of federal and Connecticut law which prohibits pregnancy discrimination in the workplace.
